What Are The Benefits Of Playing As A Small Dungeons And Dragons Character?
I can’t seem to find any. I heard that we get higher AC or defenses, or something like that. Or are all of the benefits specific to powers or out of combat?
They deserved it.
It depends on the version you are playing. In 4e, no, they do not get any higher defense or AC as a general rule. Halflings, for example get a bonus to thie AC, against Oppotunity Attacks. A very specific ocurrence. They get a +5 on saving throws against Fear.
In 3.5, yes, small characters do get a +1 to AC. It is a size bonus, so it stacks with other bonuses to AC. They also get a +1 on attack rolls, and a +4 to Hide Skill Checks.
The rest is racially specific. Gnomes for example get a +2 to saving throws against Illusions. Halflings get a +2 to saving throws against fear effects.
