As the head of U.S. Cryptic Studios suggested, it is quite possible that the more or less successful online role-playing game “Star Trek Online” will be free to play from 2011.
Cryptic currently has two major MMORPGs on the market – Star Trek Online and Champions Online, a game in which you embody a classic super hero in Marvel comics. With Champions is however already clear that it will be free to play from 2011. Cryptic is expected to apply a known free-2-play model. It can play the basic game – possibly all extensions – Download and play for free. A so-called item shop allows the rapid expand of the hero with armor, weapons and stylish goods for a small sum of money. Micro-payment is called the principle. The opposite is called “subscription-based MMOs” such as World of Warcraft, which cost a monthly fixed sum of money (usually between 10 and 15 euros) to use the server.
Cryptic considerations are likely related to the massive success of rival turbine. This studio has its moderately successful book “Dungeons & Dragons Online” (D & DO), and “The Lord of the Rings Online” (DHdRO) to Free-2-play changed and so had a massive success. So shall D & DO have retracted shortly after the conversion, a conversion gain of more than 500 percent. Similarly, it is exchanged with the look recently DHdRO. This success may stir up the envy at Cryptic, especially since even the very strong Star Trek license at a World Of Warcraft is absolutely no chance.
